The factory front lower control arms are an integral part of the Audi C8, D5, & 4M/4M.5 Chassis suspension, but can start wearing out as early as 40,000 miles - even on vehicles that see mainly highway commuting miles, trips to the local mall, and school drop-off/pick-up.
As the rubber bushings degrade and ball joints develop play, alignment is compromised and steering becomes less precise.
